Cricket in Bhutan continues to move forward with renewed energy, confidence, and purpose. Across the country, cricketing activities are gaining strong momentum as our national teams actively participate in tournaments at the senior, Under-19, and Under-16 levels. At the same time, school and district competitions, along with national T20 and 50-over one-day tournaments, are strengthening the domestic structure and creating meaningful opportunities for young talent to emerge.
Alongside competitive cricket, a wide range of development programs for players, coaches, match officials, and administrators are being conducted, with many more planned across all cricketing districts.
Bhutan Cricket remains deeply optimistic about the future of the game in our country. The steady progress we are witnessing today reflects the collective effort invested in grassroots development, capacity building, and long-term planning.
While challenges remain, the direction is clear, and the foundations being laid today will support stronger performances and sustainable growth in the years ahead.
I would like to sincerely commend the Bhutan Cricket management and its dedicated team, our development officers, coaches, district-level coordinators, teachers, officials, technical staff, cricket clubs, schools, ground staff, players, students, and volunteers for their unwavering commitment. The advancement of cricket in Bhutan is the result of shared responsibility and collective belief in the power of sport to shape character, discipline, and unity.
Infrastructure development marks a significant milestone in our journey. The Gelephu International Cricket Ground is nearing completion and will soon serve as a major venue for local, regional, and international matches. This facility will play a vital role in elevating the standard of cricket in Bhutan by providing our players with quality playing conditions and greater exposure to competitive environments.
I am also extremely pleased to announce that Bhutan Cricket has secured land near the capital city of Thimphu, with plans already underway to develop an international-sized cricket ground equipped with essential infrastructure. This development represents a major step forward in strengthening access to quality facilities and embedding cricket more firmly within the nation’s sporting landscape.
Bhutan Cricket has come a long way, and the future looks bright for the thousands of players, fans, and cricket enthusiasts across the country. With continued dedication, sound governance, and strong partnerships, cricket in Bhutan will continue to grow as a source of national pride and inspiration for generations to come.
I conclude by expressing my deepest gratitude to His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, for his constant guidance and unwavering support. I also extend sincere thanks to the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), and the Embassy of India for their goodwill, partnership, and continued support towards Bhutan Cricket.
With my deepest regards and Tashi Delek,
Thinley Wangchuk Dorji
