The Lotus Blooms in Gelephu
Bhutan Hosts the Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026
The Bhutan Cricket Council Board, with the support of the International Cricket Council, proudly announces the Lotus Cup – Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026, taking place from 20th to 29th January at the Gelephu International Cricket Ground in Gelephu Mindfulness City.
The tournament will bring together the women’s national teams of Bhutan, Hong Kong, and Malaysia for a series of competitive T20 International matches. Beyond the thrill of sport, the Lotus Cup carries a deeper connection to Bhutanese culture and the spirit of Gelephu Mindfulness City.
The lotus flower grows from the mud but opens into a perfect, untouched bloom above the water. It thrives in difficult conditions, yet shines with effortless elegance. Its journey mirrors the path of every athlete, rising through challenges, balancing strength with grace, and flourishing with focus and determination.
In Bhutan, the lotus has long been admired for this quiet strength, for its beauty, and for the calm it brings to the mind and heart.
Gelephu Mindfulness City embodies the same spirit. Its streets and gardens invite reflection and balance. Its spaces encourage connection and harmony. Hosting the Lotus Cup here feels natural, as the tournament becomes a meeting of energy and serenity, of competition and composure, of cricket and culture.
Players stepping onto the field carry more than their cricketing skills. They carry the determination of the lotus, the focus that transforms effort into growth, the resilience that turns challenge into opportunity. Each match will be a celebration of this balance, a blend of skill, teamwork, and the joy of playing at the highest level while embracing respect and fairness.
The name Lotus Cup was chosen carefully and it reflects the vision of the GMC, the character of the sport, and the heart of Bhutanese culture. Every catch, every run, every moment of the tournament will carry that essence, the beauty of rising, the harmony of effort and mindfulness, and the quiet power of persistence.
