BCCB Player Assessment Program Strengthens Cricket Development
The Player Assessment Program is part of BCCB’s structured development framework aimed at evaluating National players through match simulated scenarios, with a focus on performance monitoring, skill execution, and readiness for competitive cricket.
The Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) Player Assessment Program at the RMD Center forms part of its ongoing cricket development structure ahead of the upcoming domestic season.
The program involves men’s National players, coaches, and technical officials working within a structured environment aimed at improving match readiness, decision making, and execution in the T20 format.
The session is part of the wider development pathway, where training and assessment are integrated to ensure players are regularly exposed to match based scenarios.
After a week of training, players were assessed through match simulated scenarios designed to replicate different phases of T20 cricket. Batters were tested on their ability to read conditions, adapt to bowling variations, and respond to scoring requirements under pressure, while bowlers were assessed on consistency, control of scoring, and execution of variations such as yorkers, slower balls, and cutters across different game situations.
The assessment was overseen by a six member technical panel led by Damber Singh Gurung, Chief Executive Officer, alongside Arzoo Raj, Women’s Head Coach; Manasi Pathwardhan, Strength and Conditioning Coach; Dechen Wangmo, Development Officer; Kencho Norbu, U19 Women’s Head Coach; and Dorji Khandu, Executive Assistant to the CEO.
Speaking after the session, the Chief Executive Officer stated:
“The primary objective of this session is to assess our national players and evaluate their readiness ahead of the upcoming domestic season. The focus is on observing performance in Situation based match scenarios, identifying individual strengths and areas for improvement, and ensuring players are responding effectively under pressure. The outcomes will directly inform future training plans and targeted development work.”
The outcomes of the assessment are reviewed by the technical panel to identify key areas for improvement and guide future training plans.
The program reflects BCCB’s structured approach to long term player development, performance monitoring, and strengthening the cricket system.
