Bhutan Cricket Holds 15th Annual General Meeting and Annual Conference
The Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) successfully held its Annual Conference and 15th Annual General Meeting from 26–27 April 2026 at Goldfish Resort in Gelephu Mindfulness City. The two day event brought together Board Members, Regional Heads, Coaches, District Coordinators, and staff to review progress and plan for the future of cricket in Bhutan.
Focus on Systems and Development
The conference began with a session on adolescent development and child safeguarding, conducted with UNICEF Bhutan. This highlighted the importance of safe and supportive environments for young players.
Discussions then focused on improving administration, strengthening governance, and delivering cricket programs more effectively across the country. The 2026 Competition Calendar and Strategic Plan were also presented, outlining a clear pathway from grassroots to national level.
Strong Growth in Participation
Bhutan Cricket reported major growth in 2025. Total participation increased from 50,444 in 2024 to 96,067 in 2025. Female participation more than doubled, showing strong progress in women’s cricket development.
Grassroots programs, expansion to new regions, and structured competitions have helped increase engagement across districts.
Key Achievements in 2025
Bhutan cricket celebrated several important milestones:
- Won the ICC Global Award for Best Female Cricket Initiative
- Sonam Yeshey took 8 wickets in a single innings in a T20 International match
- Namgay Thinley scored Bhutan’s first international century (100 off 47 balls)
- Bhutan Men’s Team secured a 5–0 home series win against Myanmar
Bhutan also expanded its international presence and domestic competitions, including the BIFA Cup, Women’s T20 Championship, and cricket programs in monastic institutions.
AGM Decisions and Subcommittees
During the AGM, members approved the Annual Report 2025 and reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and growth.
Key priorities for 2026 include:
- Expanding domestic competitions
- Strengthening national team and coaching programs
- Increasing international participation
- Developing women’s cricket and youth pathways
The AGM also approved new Cricket Development Subcommittees:
- Umpiring: Ugyen Dorji
- Scoring: Deki Yangzom
- Women’s Representative: Manasi Patwardhan
- Players’ Representatives: National Team Captains
- Private Academy: Ranjung Mikyo Dorji
- Coaches: Arzoo Raj
- Junior Development: Kumar Subba
- Media: Bhagawati Acharja
- Women’s Development Officer: Dechen Wangmo
- Grounds: Amber Rai
These groups will support specialized areas and improve program delivery across Bhutan.
The conference ended with a shared commitment to continue building a strong and sustainable cricket system. With growing participation, international recognition, and clear planning, Bhutan Cricket is set for further progress.
