Bhutan Cricket Names Ranjung Mikyo Dorji as 6th Captain of the Men's National Team

The Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) is proud to announce the appointment of Ranjung Mikyo Dorji as the 6th captain of the Bhutan Men’s National Team. Ranjung will lead the Dragons across both One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) formats.

The appointment comes as Bhutan Cricket enters an important phase of its development journey, with the ACC Men’s Challenger Cup 2026 in Singapore on the horizon. The national team is eager to build on recent progress and continue its steady growth as an emerging force in associate cricket.

A Legacy of Leadership: All Six Captains of Bhutan Cricket

His right-arm medium pace has also proven valuable, claiming 13 wickets, with best bowling figures of 2/16. His ability to deliver both with bat and ball makes him a genuine asset in the Dragons’ lineup. Known for his calm demeanor on the field and his commitment to the game, Ranjung has earned the respect of teammates and opponents alike.

Ranjung’s leadership qualities were evident well before this appointment. In 2024, he served as vice-captain of the national team, gaining invaluable experience in guiding the squad during international campaigns. A crucial moment in his leadership development came at the BIFA Cup 2026, where Ranjung captained Bhutan to the championship title. That tournament victory served as a compelling audition for the national captaincy and demonstrated his ability to lead under pressure.

His progression through the ranks—from a young debutant in 2018, to vice-captain in 2024, to tournament-winning captain in 2026—reflects years of dedication, resilience, and a deep understanding of the game.

As Bhutan turns this new page, the BCCB extends its deepest gratitude to former captain Thinley Jamtsho, whose leadership has left a lasting impact on the national team.

Thinley’s journey with Bhutan Cricket is a testament to perseverance and passion. He progressed through the national pathway from the U-15 level, continuing through U-17, U-19, and U-23, before earning his place in the senior national team. His rise through every age-group category reflects not only his individual talent but also the strength of Bhutan’s domestic development system.

A right-handed batter and right-arm medium-fast bowler, Thinley has represented Bhutan in 42 T20I matches, scoring 611 runs with a career-best of 66* and claiming 13 wickets. He took over the captaincy from Jigme Singye, who stepped down to focus on his own game during his remaining years as a player, and under Thinley’s stewardship, the team grew stronger on the international stage.

Beyond the statistics, Thinley’s professionalism, passion, and dedication to nurturing the next generation of Bhutanese cricketers have left an indelible mark on the team and the wider cricket community. His leadership laid a strong foundation upon which Ranjung can now build.

With the ACC Men’s Challenger Cup 2026 in Singapore approaching, Bhutan Cricket looks ahead with optimism and ambition. The appointment of Ranjung Mikyo Dorji as captain signals a new chapter, one built on the strong legacy of leaders like Thinley Jamtsho, but focused firmly on the future.

Bhutan Cricket congratulates Ranjung Mikyo Dorji on his appointment and extends its best wishes as he leads the national team into a new era.
