Bhutan Cricket Charts Strategic Path Forward with Inaugural Full Subcommittee Meeting
The Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB) convened its 4th Cricket Development Committee (CDC) Meeting on Monday 29th of June, at the Bhutan Cricket Conference Hall, marking a historic step forward for the sport in the country. The session was the first to include representatives from all newly established CDC Subcommittees, following their ratification during the 15th Annual General Meeting in April 2026.
Chaired by Mr. Jigme Singye, the meeting brought together the BCCB Chief Executive Officer, CDC members, the Competition and Development Officers, and a full roster of subcommittee representatives. The expanded membership signals a new era of collaborative governance for the national governing body.
“We are entering a pivotal phase for Bhutanese cricket,” said Mr. Jigme Singye. “By bringing together experts in officiating, coaching, women’s development, grounds and media, we are ensuring that every pillar of our sport has a voice at the table. This structure allows us to move forward with a unified, data-driven vision.”
The meeting featured an open-floor discussion, allowing each subcommittee to present their priorities for the future. Key agenda items focused on the need to professionalize the sport through enhanced governance and player support.
Major Outcomes and Strategic Discussions:
- Player Grading Contracts System:The committee prioritized the adoption of a data-driven approach to player selection and performance evaluation. Strategies were discussed to ensure that contracted players remain engaged year-round and meet established performance benchmarks.
- Year-Round Training & Fitness:Members emphasized the need for continuous player development through structured training programs, with specific focus on improving player fitness via better access to gym facilities and high-performance strength and conditioning regimes.
- Domestic Structure:The committee identified the need to increase the number of well-governed cricket clubs nationwide to strengthen the domestic pathway and provide a larger talent pool for the national teams.
- Subcommittee Appointments:The full list of representatives was formally introduced, including Umpiring (Ugyen Dorji), Scoring (Deki Yangzom), Women’s Cricket (Manasi Patwardhan), Players’ Representative (Anju Gurung), Coaches (Arzoo Raj), Junior Development (Kumar Subba), Private Academies (Ranjung M. The committee has committed to convening quarterly going forward. All subcommittees have been tasked with developing strategic plans to be presented at the next CDC meeting scheduled for August 2026.
“The establishment of these subcommittees and the quarterly meeting schedule demonstrate our unwavering commitment to transparency and long-term development,” added the CEO of Bhutan Cricket. “We are building the infrastructure, both on and off the field to ensure cricket thrives in Bhutan for generations to come.”
