Growing the Game with Purpose

Bhutan Cricket, governed by the Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB), is the official body entrusted with the development, promotion, and governance of cricket in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Headquartered in Thimphu, the BCCB proudly represents Bhutan as an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and works closely with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to strengthen the game both regionally and internationally.

Cricket in Bhutan began its journey in the late 1990s, growing steadily in popularity after international matches became accessible to Bhutanese audiences. What started as a modest sporting interest soon transformed into an organized movement, leading to Bhutan’s affiliation with the ICC in 2001 and its first international appearance in 2003.

Since then, cricket has evolved into one of the country’s fastest-growing sports, embraced by youth, communities, and institutions across the nation. At the heart of Bhutan Cricket lies a clear vision: to build a strong, inclusive, and sustainable cricketing ecosystem that reflects the values of Bhutan while competing with confidence on the global stage.

Our work spans grassroots development, high-performance pathways, infrastructure growth, and international representation. Through nationwide school programs, community initiatives, and structured competitions, thousands of young Bhutanese—boys and girls alike—are introduced to the game each year, ensuring that talent is discovered, nurtured, and supported regardless of geography or background.

Infrastructure development remains a key pillar of our progress. The establishment of Bhutan’s first international-standard cricket ground in Gelephu marks a historic milestone, providing a home for national teams, domestic competitions, and international fixtures. Complemented by indoor training facilities and coaching programs, these investments are shaping a professional environment where players can train, compete, and aspire to higher levels of excellence.

Bhutan’s men’s and women’s national teams proudly carry the nation’s flag in ICC and ACC tournaments, representing not only competitive ambition but also the values of discipline, respect, and unity. In recent years, Bhutan Cricket has introduced structured player contracts and performance frameworks, reinforcing our commitment to athlete welfare, career development, and professionalism within the sport.

Inclusivity and opportunity remain central to our identity. Bhutan Cricket has earned international recognition for its efforts in women’s cricket development, reflecting our belief that the future of the game depends on equal access, representation, and support at every level. Cricket in Bhutan is more than competition—it is a platform for personal growth, teamwork, and national pride.

As we look ahead, Bhutan Cricket remains focused on expanding participation, strengthening performance pathways, building meaningful partnerships, and inspiring a new generation of players and fans. Guided by integrity, passion, and purpose, we continue our journey to position Bhutan as a respected and emerging cricketing nation—one that plays the game with heart, humility, and ambition.
