BHUTAN CRICKET HOSTS JAPANESE MINISTER FOR CRICKET DEVELOPMENT ENGAGEMENT
Bhutan Cricket hosted His Excellency Mr. Noriaki Abe, Minister (Political) at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi, at its headquarters today. His Excellency also serves as an Advisor to the Japan Cricket Association, adding further significance to the engagement for cricket development in both nations.
The visit formed part of the ongoing sporting and diplomatic engagement between Bhutan and Japan, as the two nations commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations.
The programme commenced with a traditional butter lamp lighting ceremony, symbolising goodwill and friendship. This was followed by an introductory presentation from a representative of the Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB), outlining Bhutan Cricket’s development journey and long-term objectives.
His Excellency Mr. Abe subsequently delivered a presentation on the bilateral relationship between Bhutan and Japan, alongside insights into the Japan Cricket Association and the growth of cricket in Japan.
Bhutan Cricket highlighted its focus on grassroots development, structured talent pathways, and infrastructure expansion as key pillars of its long-term strategy.
Discussions centred on cricket development in Japan, the importance of international exposure, preparations for the upcoming Asian Games, and Japan’s progress at the ICC U19 World Cup.
As a gesture of goodwill, the CEO of Bhutan Cricket and the Chair of the Development Committee presented the national playing jersey to His Excellency.
An interactive session followed, where coaches, players, and officials engaged in technical discussions on coaching methodologies, player development, and potential areas of bilateral cooperation.
Bhutan Cricket also extended an official invitation to the Japan Cricket Association to participate in a bilateral friendship series, aimed at further strengthening sporting ties between the two nations.
His Excellency later visited the Indoor Cricket Academy, where he interacted with players during a net session, reflecting the shared passion for the game.
Bhutan Cricket expressed its sincere appreciation to the Embassy of Japan for the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cricketing relations with Japan.
