Bhutan’s first international-standard cricket stadium, the Gelephu International Cricket Ground, was officially inaugurated on February 17, 2024. The ceremony was graced by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, marking a historic milestone for cricket in the Kingdom.

The Gelephu International Cricket Ground (GICG) has quickly established itself as Bhutan’s premier hub for international cricket.
Since its inauguration, it has hosted a range of high-profile tournaments, including the Bhutan T20I Quadrangular Series 2024, featuring Bhutan, Indonesia, Maldives, and Thailand, as well as the Myanmar Tour of Bhutan 2025, a bilateral T20I series.
GICG also marked the historic first home series for Bahrain during the Bhutan vs Bahrain 2025 T20Is, and it is set to host the Lotus Cup Women’s T20I Tri-Series 2026, featuring Bhutan, Hong Kong China, and Malaysia.
The ground has already witnessed remarkable performances, including Bhutan’s highest team total of 216/8 against Myanmar, Namgay Thinley’s century, and Sonam Yeshey’s best bowling figures of 8/7, showcasing the competitive spirit and growing stature of cricket in Bhutan.
