Senior Men’s National Team Meets Leadership Ahead of Nepal Pre-Tour and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Asia Qualifier A
The Senior Men’s National Team met with the President, Dasho Thinley Dorji Wangchuk, the CEO of the Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB), Damber S Gurung, and the Chairman of the Cricket Development Committee (CDC), Jigme Singye, at Phuntsho Pelri. The meeting came ahead of the team’s departure for Nepal and its preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Asia Qualifier A.
In his interaction with the team, the President spoke of the dreams yet to be achieved and the miles still to be travelled. He offered a perspective that looked beyond the immediate competition to the larger journey of Bhutan Cricket, and reminded the players of the opportunity before them and the responsibility of representing Bhutan on the international stage.
The CEO, Damber S Gurung, shared the management’s broader vision for Bhutan Cricket, highlighting the opportunities emerging across the game and the pathway being developed for the national teams. The team was also briefed on the demanding calendar of tournaments and international assignments ahead.
The Chairman of the CDC, Jigme Singye, addressed the squad as a former teammate as well as in his official role. Drawing on his own experience as a player, he encouraged the players to embrace the journey, make the most of every opportunity and create moments that will remain part of their story.
Speaking on behalf of the team, the Head Coach, Team Manager, Captain and Vice Captain thanked the Board and management for their continued support, trust and the opportunities being created for the national team. They reaffirmed the team’s determination to turn its aspirations into reality and to give its best every time it takes the field for Bhutan.
Pre-Tour and Tournament Schedule
To allow for better preparation, the team will depart earlier for Nepal, on Saturday, 26 September. With the support of the Cricket Association of Nepal, four T20 matches have been arranged in Pokhara under the Gandaki Province Cricket Association, from 27 September to 1 October.
The team will then depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on 3 October for the ICC Qualifiers. Between 5 and 14 October, Bhutan will face Mongolia, Thailand, Myanmar, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain.
